The Bill of Rights - The Speedy Trial

The Bill of Rights - The Speedy Trial

As you've probably seen on television and the movies, you have the right to a speedy trial as an American citizen. So, what exactly exactly is this speedy trial stuff about?

As citizens of the United States, you have certain inalienable rights. These include things such as the right to the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms and other civil liberties. The pillars of these rights are found in the Constitution. The sixth amendment of the constitution provides us with the right to a speedy and public trial.

So, who cares if you have the right to a speedy trial? What's the big rush? Well, we have to look at other countries to get a better idea. Many authoritative regimes have touted themselves as democratic in nature. To one extent or another, they hold up the fact that they guarantee a right to trial to their citizens.

The problem, however, is in the details. They don't offer a speedy trial. Instead, they arrest citizens and then let them sit in jail for years while waiting to go on trial. In some countries, they might wait up to ten years before getting their day in court. In a vast majority of these cases, the defendants are in jail because they object to actions being taken by the government.

The constitutional right to a speedy trial keeps the U.S. government from putting citizens in jail for a prolonged period. Following 9-11, the Bush administration has been roundly criticized for violating this notion via the Guantanamo Bay facility where prisoners have been held without any trials for years. The US Supreme Court has rejected the position of the Bush Administration and trials have begun.

So, how long can you sit in jail before the right to a speedy trial becomes an issue? It depends on the situation, but six months is generally a cut off period. Murder cases can be much longer. Ironically, most defendants do not invoke the right to a speedy trial as they want their attorneys to have time to mount a defence. In such cases, a defendant can waive his or her right to the speedy trial.

FLORIDA LAW FIRM PROPOSED WEB SITE RULES SPARK ARGUMENTS FROM FLORIDA LAW FIRMS

Reported by an article inside the Florida Bar news, Eight major law firms "protested the recently proposed Supreme Court rules for web advertising from a 66-page comment into the court submitted just before the August 16 deadline."

The firms that complained incorporated Foley & Lardner, White & Case, Holland & Knight, and Carlton Fields. Many attorneys dislike the anticipated rules, because they'd limit a law site from having online testimonials, case summaries, and certain audio and visual content.

The Florida Bar News says that these guidelines could involve entire overhauls of some firm internet sites and re-programming of others, updates that law firms alleged might cost millions of dollars for larger establishments.

Annotations were also submitted by other Florida lawyers plus the American Civil Liberties Union. One Florida lawyer said the projected rules were being too lenient. Some dispute that Florida residents surfing the internet and looking for lawful information from Florida lawyers will be drawn to the more attractive and easy to get to web pages offered by the non-Florida attorney sites, bypassing the very firms that the Bar regulates.

Website rule poses First Amendment considerations and can be a tricky issue in the Florida Bar. Following an intensive study from the Florida Bar on lawyers' internet sites, the Florida Bar suggested towards the court that the home page of Florida law firm web sites be subject to any or all advertising rules, knowing that the remainder of Florida lawyer websites be subject with the substantive marketing rules with definite three exceptions.

Rule 4-7.6 was submitted through the Florida Bar with the Florida Supreme Court in June in the direction with the court after the court issued an order stating that all the substantive lawyer advertising rules shall be applicable to Florida Law websites. The court's order means that lawyers online resources cannot use past results, testimonials, and statements that characterize the quality of legal services. The proposed amendments would allow testimonials, past results, and other information in separate sections on Florida law firm websites.

The Florida Supreme court abandoned that approach and ruled that Florida attorneys internet websites are subject to the overall marketing rules contained in Bar Rule 4-7.2. Rule 4-7.2 prohibits Florida Lawyers from using testimonials, concerning past consequences, or characterizing the quality of their lawful services, which can be often accessible on Florida law firm blogs.

The Most Civilized Country in the World

The Most Civilized Country in the World

There are many reasons that make a country to be civilized in this age that in order for a country to distinguish itself in a scope to deserve the place of the most civilized country, it has to go steps beyond what we normally understand as civilisation. As an ordinary observer who have had the privilege of visiting several countries in the world covering all the continents, and complemented by some degree of research, I must have to say, Great Britain is an extraordinary country which stands out in the progressive process of civilisation.

Civilization has bypassed the stage where it was judged basically by arts, literature, culture as in the past and later, freedom, liberty, modernism as infrastructure and technology to name just a few. These albeit fundamentals, requires further understanding of the structures and nature of the present world in lieu with the common purpose of mankind which to a greater than lesser extent, is the pursuit of happiness.

Appreciating, dealing with and respecting the values of others in the way they are, other than preconceptions of standards or the desires of how they must suppose to be and by so doing, exploiting the very utmost of others potentials.

This state of mind of a truly dynamic country culminated in a city call London becoming a plethora of cultural convergence which makes it the richest city in varieties of humans..., "cultural miracle of the world" upon which it deservedly prides itself and thereby becoming one of the greatest champion modern city. There is no known form of human existence in the worldwide that you would not find in London.

In this regard, a fine line must be drawn between Great Britain and the USA which, with all due respect to the Americans, was principally a "no man's' land" until as recently as near as 200+ years, Again if honesty must prevail, founded on the English culture... to over emphasize the mindset!

Everyone must be treated based on personal merit and nothing else. Great Britain is the a country which has not failed to realize but equally and visibly implemented the modern believe that for the world to be a better place, it is unavoidable to treat each individual fairly and with respect regardless of their origin, race, belief and other discriminatory intuitions which has incessantly shamed the history of man and leaves a nudge on his very existence. Sadly, some other "civilized" countries are still to catch up with this attitude.

Great Britain is a country where anyone feels at home rigidly because of the rich variety of its people. There are whites, blacks, brown, blue, green, Muslims, orthodox, homosexuals, all sought of people; in the immigration in airports, offices, bus drivers, even in the army and all the other strata's of an operational society which leaves everyone at ease, to say the least.

A thing, which apart from the USA, is a reality only in the dreams of a majority of non-locals in other purportedly developed countries particularly in continental Europe. Not that it does not happen at all. It is not only uncommon but some races such as blacks are still looked upon as members of the ape family just as it was thought of in the dark and middle ages when men lived in broad and glaring oblivion.

As stated in the very beginning of this article, a lot of endless factors do constitute to civilization. Great Britain has by the very formation and nature of its society, unified a great majority of these factors and advanced further to distinguish itself as the most civilized country on earth.

Benefits of Music Licensing

Benefits of Music Licensing

Musicians of jazz, rock and roll, folk, classical you name it all need to know that music licensing their songs is very important It is decisive for a musician to maintain his civil liberties, and that means licensing and copyrighting his work properly because this could mean big bucks for them if they wrote a particular successful song and someone wants to license it from them.

There is this friend of mine who was a typically qualified violinist. Though he rarely composed songs, he decided to enter a contest to compose a hit new piece of music for a commercial for a popular fast food chain which shall remain nameless. He later realized that he had been robbed although he got an award of 0 when he won as a bandit.

He hadn't licensed his music, and so when the company sold the rights to another fast food company, and then to a movie for a soundtrack, he realized that he wouldn't even obtain any payment because he had no evidence to show that the song was rightfully his. The license now belonged to the business which had held the competition.

Consumers of music tend to practice illegal tricks such as making a mix CD, trading music both in being and over the internet and many other activities. They should be acquainted with the dire consequences if they get caught by music licensing companies.

Songs put up on websites by music licensing companies are actually nothing but noise. This is a way that music licensing companies use so as to waste time for those who are downloading songs illegally. However unknown bands and musicians use the internet to be discovered by new fans, sometimes even musicians use this method. Both of them gain a lot by trading licensed songs.

Voting In America

Voting In America

George Washington became the first President of the United States in 1789. He not only won the popular vote of the people but he also won the majority vote in the electorate. The second runner up in the electoral vote was named Vice President who at this first election was John Adams. The United State of America, with its Constitution and its promise of freedom began that fateful day.

Even though women were allowed to vote in some states such as New Jersey from 1776 to 1807, they were limited to which local elections they could participate in and vote. Kentucky began allowing women to vote in 1838 but their vote was limited to school board elections. There were other states that allowed women to vote but with stringent rules and regulations. It was on August 26th, 1920 that women won their constitutional right to vote in all local and national elections. The struggle to be afforded the right to vote took 72 years. The organized movement began in 1848 and even though at times these women were demonized and harassed they persevered.

Elections will soon be here on November 2nd 2010. This election is being called the most important election in our history. This election will determine the direction this country will take. On one side you have the democrats or left wing party. They believe that the Constitution of the United States is a "living document" that can be altered and changed as the politicians deem fit. Then you have the republicans or right wing party that feel the constitution is the basis that this country was founded on and what makes this country of ours great. A third party that may be influential in the outcome of this year's election is the Tea Party. They believe that the freedoms of the constitution should not be tampered with, they believe in less federal government and less taxes. They are not republican or democrat, they are Americans who believe in their country, in their laws and in the basic foundation set forth by the founding fathers.

All Americans who are eligible to vote need to do so in this election. Its your constitutional right and a civil obligation. Let your voice be heard. Whatever party you may be affiliated with doesn't matter, voting for America is what counts.

America is made up people of different colors and people of different faiths but what we have in common is that we all are Americans with equal rights. Celebrate your freedom and liberty visit Mall4Men where they have patriotic themed jewelry and civilian jewelry for men and women.

Tip Toe Walking

Tip Toe Walking

Walking tip toe is fairly common when toddlers are learning to walk. Most outgrow it by the time they are two. Occasionally, tip toe walking becomes a habit (idiopathic toe walking). The Mayo Clinic advises that as along as your child is otherwise developing normally, it isn't likely there is cause for concern. However, keep an eye on it. Walking tip toe may be a sign of autism or cerebral palsy. The earlier either autistic disorder or the cerebral palsy disease is diagnosed the better.

Toe-walking that continues after two may be the symptom of:
A short Achilles tendon Habit Autism or other developmental disorders Cerebral palsy or other neurological disorders Heavy metal poisoning

If you notice your child walking tip toe, talk with your child's pediatrician.
Ask him/her about the risks and possible neurological and developmental test for delays, disorders or disease. Most likely, unless there are other symptoms, they will just watch it. Many grow up walking tip toe and have to consciously think about it to walk normally. Most of the time it really doesn't cause any real problems, but sometimes it does.

The Best Advice
Detox from heavy metals first. If the body is not first cleansed, you may be just adding to the problem. It's just common sense. How can you really tell what the problem is, until you have a clean place to work? Pharmaceutical companies know this. All their tests are done in a controlled, clean, environment, with purified water. Pharmaceutical laboratories know test results can be compromised by what is in the air around us and the water used for cleaning and drinking.

If your child is walking tip toe, you can easily help them detox from heavy metals with activated, macronized, suspended, liquid zeolite. It is on the FDAs Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) list and carries no age or dosage warning. Then the diagnosis and treatment of it will more likely be accurate. Don't run the risk of a misdiagnosis. Who knows what other symptoms you might alleviate.

Tip toe walking is a symptom
Before you treat it, detox from heavy metals. It just makes sense.

The History of the Phrase "In God We Trust" For American Currency

The History of the Phrase "In God We Trust" For American Currency

America was founded on Biblical principles. Just look at buildings in Washington. D.C., or read the many documents and historical speeches that have shaped America. In fact, our First Amendment states that America is a free nation and freedom of religion is guaranteed. Indeed, President Thomas Jefferson wrote, "The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time...Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are of God?" One of the many ways that our forefathers choose to remind the citizens of God's existence, support and many blessing was through the currency.

The first reference to a motto for America was in 1814 when Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. In the last stanza he wrote, "...And this be our motto: In God is our trust. And the Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave, O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave."

However, after the Civil War the Secretary of the Treasury Department, Salmon P. Chase, received a letter from Reverend M. R. Watkinson suggesting that there had been a serious oversight in the currency of America because God was not recognized. As Rev. Watkinson stated, "This would place us openly under the Divine protection we have personally claimed. From my heart I have felt our national shame in disowning God as not the least of our present national disasters."

On November 20, 1861, Mr. Chase instructed James Pollock, the Director of the Mint at Philadelphia to prepare a motto. He stated, "No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense. The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins."

After some research, it was found that an Act of Congress dated January 18, 1837 stated that any mottoes and devices could not be placed on the coins without legislation by Congress. In December of 1863, The Director of the Mint submitted designs for new one-cent, two-cent and three-cent coins. The proposition suggested that either "OUR COUNTRY: OUR GOD" or "GOD, OUR TRUST" be imprinted on the shield that was part of the design for each of the coins. Secretary Chase then suggested that it should read, "IN GOD WE TRUST".

Eventually, on April 22, 1864 Congress passed legislation to change the composition of the one-cent and two-cent coins to include the motto. Then on March 3, 1865, Congress passed approval to place the motto on the gold double-eagle coin, the gold eagle coin, and the gold half-eagle coin. Later on, in 1866, the motto was added to the silver dollar coin, the half-dollar coin and the quarter. Ultimately, in February 12, 1873 Secretary Chase declared that "IN GOD WE TRUST" to be inscribed on such coins as shall admit of such motto."One by one, the motto was added to the currency, until now all our money includes this statement.

Facts and Myths About Gay and Lesbian Parenting

Facts and Myths About Gay and Lesbian Parenting

Change often causes a division between those that are in support of the change, and those that aren't. Gay and lesbian parenting is one such change. Supportive people tend to reflect on the positive benefits of having gay or lesbian parents while those who are not supportive may claim unreal negatives linked to having two moms or two dads. Research studies have been completed on gay and lesbian parenting with some interesting, myth-busting results.

Myth: Parenting Choices are Influenced by Sexual Orientation

Fact: According to a 1999 report published by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), gay and lesbian parents did not parent based upon their sexual orientation. The ACLU states that "good parenting" involves supplying a nurturing home with love from both parents and gay/lesbian parents can effectively offer that to their children.

Myth: Children of Alternative Parents Grow Up Unhappy

Fact: The same 1999 report published by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), revealed children of gay and lesbian parents were just as happy as children raised by heterosexual parents. This could be true and untrue at the same time. In 2004, Barbara Walters interviewed children of gay and lesbian couples to find that some had problems during middle school years when peer pressure and teasing was heaviest. Some skeptics may state that all children have trouble during middle school years with these same issues whether parents are gay or not.

Myth: Children of Alternative Couples are Less Intelligent

Fact: There are no known studies that support the idea that children of gay and lesbian couples are less intelligent. Children are also not proven to suffer additional mental problems, behavioral problems, drug addiction or eating disorders.

Myth: Alternative Parents Cannot Provide Good Foster and Adoption Homes

Fact: Each year, more and more children enter the foster system with fewer couples willing to adopt. With research supporting the alternative parental unit, there is no reason to stop them from opening a well-rounded home to a child that would otherwise by stuck in the system. There are research studies, however, that link a lack of a supportive home unit to problems throughout childhood and adulthood.

As long as there are alternative lifestyles there will be myths and facts to set straight. Not every gay and lesbian couple is perfect for parenthood - but not every heterosexual couple is either. There are pros and cons of every parent until no matter the sexual orientation.

A Brief Look at George Washington, The Politician

A Brief Look at George Washington, The Politician

George Washington was the very first President of the United States of America. He was born on February 22, 1732 in a small County called Westmoreland, located in Virginia. Washington, whose father passed away when he was only 11, was home schooled and learned how to become an expert woodsman and mapmaker by himself.

In 1759 Washington married Martha Curtis, a wealthy widow. Although Washington and Curtis never had children of their own, Curtis had two children, Martha and John, from her previous marriage.

After many years of turmoil between the Colonists and British, Washington was selected as the Commander in Chief of the Colonial Army in 1775. The following year, Washington and the rest of the Colonists declared their independence from the British. After years of fierce fighting and much bloodshed, the British were defeated in 1781. Washington's unique strategies combined with the help of the French, granted the Colonists their independence.

In 1787 Washington attended the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, where the United States Constitution was first drafted. This Constitution was the main outline for how the government would function. The Constitution was ratified a year later, and went into effect the year after that (1789).

When it was time for voters to choose their first leader in 1789, Washington was unanimously voted in as the first President of the United States. He was also voted in unanimously for his second term in 1792. Although much was accomplished during his 8-year presidency, his most well known accomplishment was that of the Bill of Rights, which was adopted in 1791. Washington declined to serve a third term, explaining in his farewell speech that a third term would "give one man too much power".

After retiring from politics in March of 1797, Washington returned to Mount Vernon where he devoted much of his time to farming. Washington's health began to deteriorate severely in mid-1799, and he passed away shortly thereafter on December 14th, 1799 at his home. The cause of death is believed to have been acute laryngitis and pneumonia.

Chuck Baldwin - Presidential Candidate

Chuck Baldwin - Presidential Candidate

At no time since the creation of our nation have we been further from the founding principles laid for this great nation. The concept of limited self government, separation of powers between the branches of government, and the supremacy of the state and the citizen over the federal government, seems to have been lost.

The next president of the United States will determine whether we continue down the path to certain destruction of liberty and self determination, or a return toward smaller government and increased liberty -- we cannot have both. As government grows, liberty is diminished, because government rules by force; and the more power it takes, the more force is applied until only compliance to the will of the rulers remain.

When making the decision of who to vote for this November, weigh the facts based on freedom and responsibility.

Some will tell you that casting a vote for a third party candidate is a wasted vote or a vote for the opposition. This is more often said by someone who is willing to stand up for evil. They may also use the phrase "voting for the lesser of two evils." In my opinion, voting for the lesser of the two evils is still a vote for evil. We should vote our conscience based on fact and rational thought not just to be on the winning side, we want to be on the side of what is right.

With these thoughts in mind I would like to present the positions of Candidate Chuck Baldwin to aid you in gaining that knowledge. (Wherever possible, I have tried to use the candidates own words.)

Illegal Immigration and Border Security:
Mr. Baldwin has stated: "I support construction of a fence to secure our borders, but a Baldwin Administration will not wait for the construction of a fence in order to seal and secure our borders. We will utilize whatever force is necessary, including regular military personnel, to effectively secure our borders immediately."

"Employers in America who knowingly hire illegal aliens are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

"As President, I would enforce our visa rules. This means anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law is immediately deported.

"There will be no "path to citizenship" given to any illegal alien. That means no amnesty.

"I would end birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. There would be no "anchor babies."

"I will "support our U.S. Border Patrol, not with meaningless words, but with action."

"The day before my inauguration as President will be the last day that Mr. Ramos and Mr. Campean will have to spend in prison."

Iraq War:
On the Iraq war Mr. Baldwin has stated the following: "I would begin the process of safely extracting our troops from Iraq. In the first place, our troops are no longer fighting a war, they are an occupation force, which occupies a sovereign country. And this is being done without a Declaration of War."

"...the invasion and occupation of Iraq was absolutely unnecessary... President Bush should have supported Ron Paul's bill, H.R. 3076, the September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001. This is the constitutional way to deal with rogue terrorist organizations. This is the way President Thomas Jefferson responded to the Barbary pirates." Which would have given "the President the authority to respond with appropriate force to those non-state actors who wage aggression against the United States while limiting his authority to only those responsible for the atrocities of that day.

"When I become President empire building and playing policeman of the world will come to an immediate halt and the United States of America will once again begin conducting itself as the Republic it was meant to be."

The Patriot Act:

"I would repeal it." He went on to state that he believed, as did Benjamin Franklin, that those willing to give up liberty for security will have neither.

The Second Amendment:
Mr. Baldwin's views on the Second Amendment: "The Second Amendment Protects Our Liberty To help keep your family safe and your country free, go buy a gun."

"The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution; it may not properly be infringed upon or denied. Therefore, a Baldwin Administration will uphold the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms and will oppose attempts to prohibit ownership of guns by law-abiding citizens, and, further, will stand against all laws which would require the registration of guns or ammunition."

"Judge Roy Moore, recently noted that 'Our ancestors firmly believed in God-given 'unalienable rights' and had no reservation about using guns, when necessary, to defend those rights against tyrannical oppression. Before there was a Constitution, our guns guaranteed the rights God had already given us, including the right to bear arms. The Constitution was written and designed to protect, not preclude, those very rights.'

"In conclusion I would again quote Judge Moore, who wrote, 'Liberty and freedom are gifts of God, and not the government. The means by which we secure those gifts are ultimately in the hands and the "arms" of the people.'"

"Countless assaults against the right of the people to keep and bear arms by both Republicans and Democrats over the years have taken a toll through draconian gun laws and oppressive legislation which has slowly and steadily chipped away at Americans' vital, God-given right to self-defense."

Abortion:
A very touchy issue of today is abortion; Mr. Baldwin has stated the following: "I will use the bully pulpit of the Presidency to demand that Congress enact Dr. Ron Paul's Sanctity of Life Act which would set forth that every unborn child is a 'person' under the Constitution, entitled to equal protection of the law and therefore, no unborn child could be killed without due process of law."

"Under my administration, we could end legal abortion in a matter of days, not decades. And if Congress refuses to pass Dr. Paul's bill, I will use the constitutional power of the Presidency to deny funds to protect abortion clinics. Either way, legalized abortion ends when I take office."

Governmental Departments:
Mr. Baldwin's comment concerning excutive departments: "If I become president of these United States we will see to it that the Department of Education, the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce, and several other departments will be eviscerated. They're history!"

Oil Reserves:
With the oil crisis looming over all of us, what is Mr. Baldwin's position? He stated: "...We will untap the vast reserves that reside under the soil of Alaska. We have more oil under Alaska than in Saudi Arabia, We do not need OPEC."

"We will drill Alaskan oil, we will drill for the oil in the Dakotas, we will drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico."

Law Enforcement:
Mr. Baldwin's view on law enforcement was summed up by saying: "Law enforcement is, for the most part, the property of the states and local communities and that's where law enforcement belongs, not in Washington DC."

"No longer will we allow the FBI or the BLM or any of those alphabet police agencies from Washington DC to bully and to dictate local and state police agencies."

Health Care:
Another hot topic this election year is health care; Candidate Baldwin stated: "I strongly support the freedom of choice of practitioner and treatment for all citizens for their health care."

His web site states: "Government regulation and subsidy constitutes a threat to both the quality and availability of patient-oriented health care and treatment. Hospitals, doctors, and other health care providers should be accountable to patients - not to politicians, insurance bureaucrats, or HMO Administrators."

His web site goes on to say: "The federal government has no Constitutional provision to regulate or restrict the freedom of the people to have access to medical care, supplies or treatments. I, therefore, support the elimination of the federal Food and Drug Administration, as it has been the federal agency primarily responsible for prohibiting beneficial products, treatments, and technologies here in the United States that are freely available in much of the rest of the civilized world."

United Nations and world courts:
Mr. Baldwin's position on the United Nations and America's involvement are illustrated in his comments as: "The United Nations will have to find a new address, when I am President of these United States all funding for the United Nations stops!"

"I strongly oppose American participation in any form of world government organization, including any world court."

"As President I will terminated United States membership in the United Nations, and its subsidiary organizations, and terminate U.S. participation in all so-called U.N. peace keeping operations and I would bar the United Nations, and its subsidiaries, from further operation, including the raising of finds, on United States territory."

"American troops must serve only under American commanders; and as long as I am President American forces will never serve under the flag of the United Nations or any foreign country."

Taxation:
On taxation he has stated: "When I become President, I will work feverishly to overturn the Sixteenth Amendment, which would repeal the Income Tax. And, no, I would not promote a national sales tax."

"I would also repeal the "death tax," inheritance taxes, and property taxes."

"We are bankrupting our country with this incessant and burdensome tax system."

"I favor a tariff-based revenue system, originally implemented by our founding fathers, and which was the policy of the United States during most of our nation's history."

Federal Reserve:
Mr. Baldwins position on the Federal reserve is: "I would work to expunge the Federal Reserve and to restore the American economy to sound money."

"No system of 'debt money' should ever again be imposed on the people of the United States."

"We will work to restore a debt free, interest free money system that works for the people of this country and not for the benefit of the international banking cartel."

"A Chuck Baldwin Presidency would signal the end of the stranglehold that the modern day moneychangers have over our economy and provide the opportunity for a rebirth of the American dream.

National Defense:
The following statements illustrate Mr. Baldwin's positions on National Defense: "We will have a national defense that is second to none, with armed forces that serve only under our flag, whose mission is to defend these United States of America."

"The goal of the U.S. security policy is to defend the national security interests of these United States. Therefore, except in time of declared war, for the purposes of state security, no state national guard or reserve troops shall be called upon to support or conduct operations in foreign theatres."

"I will always give our troops my full support and will make it the highest priority of my administration to make sure that our soldiers are well-trained, well-equipped and well-led."

"As President I will never deploy American troops into combat without a declaration of war by Congress, pursuant to Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution."

"In a Baldwin Administration, the armed forces of the United States will always serve under the flag of the United States and the mission of our armed forces will always be to provide for the common defense for these United States of America."

The vast majority of the information I have found on Candidate Baldwin has shown him to be a true constitutional patriot. He shows a conviction to the founding principles of limited self government, non-interventionist position on foreign affairs, and a belief in the Judeo-Christian ethic that has made this country so great.

I will not tell you who you should vote for, that decision must be made by each American citizen. It is the responsibility of every American to be active in the affairs of government, to know the state of the Union and the issues that confront the American people.

Once you have researched the issues and the candidates, you must weigh them against your own beliefs, knowledge, and convictions and choose which candidate you believe supports your position. Do not be swayed by the talking heads telling you that you must vote for either Democrat or Republic parties or you are wasting your vote. The only wasted vote is the one cast in ignorance, for the person casting it is doing so as if it was a lottery he hopes to win, and when we look at the odds, it is not in our favor.

What is the Role of a Grand Jury in the Judicial System?

What is the Role of a Grand Jury in the Judicial System?

The judicial system of the United States is clearly outlined in Article three of the constitution. The role of a grand jury is explicitly defined in the fifth amendment of the Bill of Rights. A grand jury is assembled in the event of an indictment for a capital or infamous offense. Such a jury is assembled for the purpose of evaluating prosecutory evidence.

Once the evidence is assessed, it is the job of the grand jury to rule on whether or not there is sufficient grounds to continue on to a trial. This is the initial step in the justice systems method of bringing an individual to trial for an offense. The process of assembling this jury begins with a summons from the assignment judge for the hearing. Jurors are chosen to sit on a grand jury through many different methods.

They may be chosen through a random pick by a computer or through drawing numbers similar to that of a lottery system. The number of selected jurors varies depending upon the trial classification. For civil trials there are typically eight individuals who will be seated as grand jurors. With a criminal trial, the number of jurors is most likely to be 14 in number.

Regardless of the whether the potential case is civil or criminal in nature, there are alternate jurors that must be readily available in the event that a selected juror is excused from the jury. The two main types of grand jury cases involve criminal and civil cases. For cases that fall under the criminal category, the jury may hear evidence and testimony regarding capital offenses such as murder. Anyone accused of a criminal offense has the right under the constitution to a trial by jury.

A criminal court proceeding requires more substantial proof through evidence due to the serious nature of the alleged crime. Grand juries in criminal cases are scrutinized much more closely because the liberty of another person is at stake. In a civil case, the jury is assembled to hear evidence for disputes involving complaints not of a criminal nature. A civil case usually involves two parties, a plaintiff and a defendant.

The grand jury decides, based upon the evidence provided, whether there is sufficient cause to pursue to trial. Prosecutors generally favor a grand jury in bringing a case to trial for the simple fact that if the jury determines there is enough evidence to take the case through to trial, there is a better chance that the trial jury will favor the prosecution due to the evidence. The role of a grand jury in the judicial system, as outlined above, gives a clear picture of the process by which a grand jury functions. The right to a fair trial cannot be preserved without the seating of a proper grand jury.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - A Town of History, People and Presidents

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - A Town of History, People and Presidents

What American among us has not heard at least snippets of President Abraham Lincoln's famous Gettysburg address?

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

And these are words our country was built upon, words that Gettysburg still holds true in its historic soul. Gettysburg Pennsylvania, while known specifically for Abraham Lincoln's address, and the Battle of Gettysburg, is also home to the Lutheran Theological Seminary, founded in 1826, and Pennsylvania College (now Gettysburg College), which began teaching students in 1832.

Most of us have heard of the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the most significant battles in American history, but few know the details, pain and anguish that echoed across our land when in July 1-3, 1863, between 46,000 and 51,000 Americans were killed in battle.

With that many people who died tragically, it seems only fitting that those who believe in ghosts, or even those who are ghost hunters might fixate on the souls who still do battle on the fields of Gettysburg. Whether or not you believe is your choice, but according to Mark Nesbitt, a local historian, and now noted ghost hunter, "There are strange and paranormal forces that continue to haunt the battlefields of Gettysburg".

Gettysburg has retained that quaint yesteryear feeling in the small shops and old style homes that blanket the area, attracting visitors year round, especially in the summer and fall. "I felt like I'd stepped into a history book", said one smiling tourist at a local shop.

Abraham Lincoln was not the only president who held Gettysburg close, the town being a favorite of President Eisenhower, who was stationed at nearby Camp Colt. President Eisenhower would later call Gettysburg home, buying a beautiful and peaceful country estate/farm adjacent to Gettysburg Battlefield. The home is now maintained by the National Park Service and available for tours.

If you gaze back into history to the beginning of the Civil War, Gettysburg was a typical Pennsylvania community with a mix of English, German, Irish, and African-Americans, people who had no way of knowing their small town and nearby meadows would become gridlocked in battle and thus their town burned into American history.

After that tragic three-day battle, the people of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania pitched in to provide medical assistance, bury the dead, and begin to preserve this tragic setting for future generations to ponder and hopefully never repeat.

"History is far more than the excitement of battle, the flags and guns and desperate assaults. In a place like Gettysburg, the visitor-the native for that matter-may easily become absorbed in the three days of conflict, forgetting that history was also made here in quiet lives, on farm and village street, through a century before the battle, through a century after it." Dwight D. Eisenhower

Every American should visit Gettysburg Pennsylvania at some point, if only to touch a point in our history we never wish to re-visit. While the Civil War is far in the past, it can never be erased from American history and while much of Gettysburg, as President Eisenhower stated, is made of those living quiet lives, once cannot visit without remembering those pivotal days in 1863.

The Final Presidential Executive Order

The Final Presidential Executive Order

Presidential Executive Orders are controversial because as previously mentioned, they allow the President to make major decisions without the consent of Congress. For example, Executive Order # 6102 prohibited the hoarding of gold coins, gold bullion, and gold certificates & was used by Roosevelt to confiscate gold in 1933. I believe another terrorist attack could generate such a climate of fear, panic and public emergency. This would result in a political over-reaction that could destroy many of our remaining personal, financial, religious & educational freedoms we value so highly in America today. Read the following case study and decide if this is possible, then protect yourself and forward this report to your friends to make them aware of the threat - while there is still time. Note, this "what if" study is a worst case scenario, and although the timing of the study is during the Bush presidency, our goal is only to highlight the risk of the following controls in a public panic situation. We feel that the politicians of both major parties could incorporate at least some of these measures following the next Islamic terrorist attack.

This case study outlines a chilling terrorist attack scenario in the future, when on 9/11/2007, a presumed domestic Moslem radical group carries out a series of successful attacks inside the US similar in scope to the July 7, 2005 London subway bombings. Learn why since the Feds refuse to ethnic profile those who threaten us. Explore how an excessive political reaction inside the US could create a harsh regulatory environment that could destroy what is left of our civil liberties, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution. You will discover how this could be used as a real or fabricated pretext to destroy your financial security, uproot your religious and educational freedoms, confiscate your gold, freeze your domestic bank savings (including mutual funds and investment portfolios), and raid your remaining cash holdings. The setting for this example is the day following the attack when the Final Presidential Executive Order, "protecting the public", allows the government to take total control of your wealth and liberties using the terrorism emergency as the excuse.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania (1759)

Setting the Stage

Since 9/11/2001, the American public has been forced to suffer through 5 years of broad-based and usually misdirected border and airport security measures, instead of targeting the individuals and groups that might actually be terrorists. The government is unable to target certain factions and individuals due prohibitions against ethnic and racial profiling.

Now they are touting the benefits of Felony Frowning, read Lew Rockwell's "Your Evil Intent" http://www.lewrockwell.com/rockwell/evil-intent.html

about the new emphasis on frowning when entering and leaving the United States.Americans have sacrificed our last constraints protecting financial and communications privacy, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution, which have all been lost in the so-called "War on Terror". Given the government's broad actions to date, here we take the next logical step by projecting what could happen, given their past response, if there was another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. While we do not believe the risk to be imminent nor the response possibly as extreme as played out in the following example, it Is best to be prepared for the worst.

We all know how Homeland Security and the TSA have been harassing American grandmothers, mothers with babies, my wife (A true story - Read "Meet My Wife Tami - A Domestic Terrorist" at http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/holland5.html, and other innocent Americans as part of their effort to defend our nation from Islamic terrorists and al Qaeda operatives. While I will not begin to question what groups were ultimately behind the horrendous 9/11 attack, suffice it to say that Moslems around the world are angry and antagonized by the foreign policy actions of the US. Even if Osama and Islamic terrorists were not behind 9/11, they jumped at the chance to take the credit for the attack. Today almost five years later, millions of additional Moslems have been radicalized and now see America as their ultimate enemy.
The Scenario

On Tuesday at noon during a normal lunch hour, 10 conventional explosive blasts hit 7 major metropolitan areas in the United States. In New York City, a large truck bomb went off in front of the New York Stock Exchange, doing extensive damage to the building, the floor of the NYSE, and computer and communications equipment. The Wall Street subway station was also bombed by a suicide bomber, resulting in heavy causalities. A briefcase filled with explosives was left in a skyscraper elevator and detonated when the building was full of office workers preparing to go out for lunch.

A few minutes away, a transfer truck filled with explosives was blown up in the Holland Tunnel, and the resulting blast killed hundreds trapped in the resulting traffic jam. At the same time a jet leaving Orlando bound for Dallas exploded right after takeoff when it reached an altitude of 666 feet, apparently from a luggage bomb with an altitude trigger. Suburban malls in Minneapolis and San Francisco, a casino in Las Vegas, and a five star hotel in Miami were also ripped apart by bombs, leaving many hundreds dead and wounded. Finally, a small explosion from within a safe deposit box in the vault of the Bank of America headquarters building in Charlotte went off. Although no one was injured in this instance, other deposit boxes and their private contents were consumed in the small explosion. Moreover, additional bombs went off in two other Bank of America buildings in Atlanta and Seattle, creating a sense of panic and disarray for the United States leading bank.

A broad sense of public terror was increasing by the minute, making the situation and financial costs much worse. The American stock and bond markets were closed as investors remembered what happened after the 9/11 terrorist attack. Subways, planes, and high rise building elevators were almost empty as the public feared additional attacks. Malls and shopping centers, casinos, banks, and major hotels were strangely quiet as people stayed away in droves. The American economy was shutting down.

By 6:00 PM, just in time for the 6:30 nightly new programs, the Bush Administration and the Homeland Security Department held a joint news conference announcing 20 suspects were already in custody. Most of the suspects were young radical Islamists who had recently graduated from Madrasah style Islamic schools in the targeted cities and several were home schooled. There also appears to be direct financial and religious links between the terrorists and Hezbollah and of course Iran and Syria.

The President reported that a tip from Israeli intelligence had allowed the government to react quickly and forestall a planned second wave of attacks. He thanked them for their efforts. More news emerges as files found on the personal computers of the deceased and detained alleged terrorists clearly show that the suspects had financed their operation with funds wired from outside the country and through large amounts of cash currency secretly kept in bank safe deposit boxes.

The President then appealed to the public for their support and highlighted the need for them to stay calm during the emergency. He announced that effective noon tomorrow EST, September 12, 2007, a Presidential Executive Order would be released in response to the attack that would safeguard the American public and protect our nation from another attack such as this. He affirmed that this kind of unwarranted attack against innocent civilians and our financial interests would never happen again. He insisted that all the perpetrators, both domestic and foreign, as well as any conspiring organizations or governments, would be brought to justice.

Finally, he placed the US armed forces on high alert and ordered a carrier task force, which happened to be standing by off the coast of Iran near the Straits of Hormuz, to prepare for action. In addition, he called for unity among the American people, and warned politicians and all facets of the media of the need to understand that America is now in a state of war with the terrorists. Any and all anti-American activities and other actions that might divide the American people, deny the seriousness of, or question the coming emergency actions, especially tomorrow's Presidential Executive Order, will be prohibited for the duration of the terrorism emergency. Helen Thomas, a reporter sitting in the audience loudly questions whether the President would ask Congress to issue a Declaration of War. She was immediately escorted from the press conference by the Secret Service.

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first."-- Thomas Jefferson

THE WHITE HOUSE,

September 12, 2007

Prologue

And so on the following day, 9/13/2007, in a burst of patriotism and outrage at the death and carnage from the attack, the Senate voted 100 to 0 and Congress voted 434 to 1 in favor in a non-binding endorsement of the Presidential Executive Order. The people cheered and waved American flags, the opposition fell silent and our young men and women waited for the day when their Registration Acknowledgments were replaced with the draft cards and notices for the ongoing war in the Middle East.

GOP Congressman Ron Paul from Texas, the lone dissenting 1 vote in opposition, packed up his desk, resigned from the Congress and went home to Texas where he was barred from writing and commenting publicly by the Bush Executive Action Stopping Terrorism and the Terrorism Emergency Denial Act.

Accordingly, a long night of darkness fell over this former Republic and our remaining liberties. The Bush Executive Action Stopping Terrorism which became known by the initials, BEAST was enforced for the duration of the terrorist emergency which covered the rest of the Bush term and the one term presidency of Hillary Clinton. Five years later, in the November 2012 Presidential Election, an elderly Ron Paul was elected President of the United States and the terrorism emergency and the BEAST were declared unconstitutional and The Final Presidential Executive Order # Executive Order 13666 was cancelled.

Of course this is just a story and we are obviously having a little fun with the "BEAST" acronym showing a worst case situation. This scenario is meant to illustrate what could happen here in the United States. Still the PC prohibitions on ethnic profiling could result in these extreme kinds of government actions in the event of a real or contrived Islamic extremist terrorist attack on the United States. Unlike 9/11, there is nothing high tech about any of this. Although we use President Bush in the example simply because he will be President at the time of this story, I foresee few real differences in the foreign or domestic policy of either party, although this would more likely happen under a Democrat Party administration.

Quoting George Washington, "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action."

Patriot Act, Our Civil Liberties Subtract

Patriot Act, Our Civil Liberties Subtract

The war on terror brought the Patriot Act

The result, our civil liberties subtract

An FBI audit unveils and reveals

Big Brother breaks the law big time

Spying on American citizens illegally

What has become of my beloved country?

Illicit eyes like to pry, sneak, and invade

Our sacred privacy, which now does fade

Fade away into the war on terror

Does anyone even show concern or care?

Certainly the Constitution does not permit

The Founding Fathers would not tolerate it

Why than do we call this act patriotic

On the contrary it is idiotic and despotic

Entirely unnecessary and grossly neurotic

Entertaining perhaps and remotely therapeutic

Uncovering and confirming humanity's frailty

Fervent lapse into immorality and despondency

If we cannot trust our leaders and institutions

What than can we expect from our government

Beyond repulsive intrusions and violations?

Our nation needs an injection of truth serum

An infusion of honesty, integrity, and honor

Currently the FBI director admits dishonor

Misdealing with the general public and people

The enforcement of our civil liberties are feeble

Intelligence directors seem shady and fickle

They promise inspections when caught in a pickle

Revisions and compliance when we apply pressure

The magnitude of adherence is no lesser

Than monumental and instrumental

To maintain the precious and valuable freedoms

For which our forefathers bravely fought

Without which this nation is utter rot

Let us never forget these liberties we've got

Examine thoroughly every reproach and spot

Awake and investigate every misdeed and misstep

Unless we fight for domestic freedom to be kept

Never assume or presume, but always check

If we roll over and simply gullibly expect

Those in authority to do right by us

Our liberties obviously they will neglect

Therefore let us arise, scrutinize, and inspect

Reinstate and fortify the liberties of the citizenry

Fight for and protect them wholeheartedly

The Patriot Act can take the backseat for liberty.

Drunk Driving in Pennsylvania - PA DUI Laws

Drunk Driving in Pennsylvania - PA DUI Laws

Drunk driving in Pennsylvania can also be referred to as driving under the influence (DUI), driving while impaired (DWI) or the new driving after imbibing (DAI). PA DUI Laws are quite severe and you need a criminal defense attorney who specializes in drunk driving defense to assist you.

PA DUI laws say that the arrest will trigger two cases. The first action is the criminal court case, with a variety of potential consequences, including jail, fines, mandatory alcohol education programs, loss of driving privileges, and more. The second case involves the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDot) trying to take away the driver's license in a separate action.

If caught, the PA DUI laws specify that your punishment will be related to how much alcohol is in your system. The lowest level is enacted when you're caught with a blood alcohol level (BAC) of .08 to .099. The intermediate level is .1 to .159. Anything over .16 is punished at the most severe level.

Additionally, the PA DUI laws provide for different punishments based on whether this is your first drunk driving arrest. Each subsequent arrest brings with it more severe penalties. The DUI arrests are calculated within the last 10 years.

For instance, a first time DUI with a .08 BAC brings 6 months maximum probation, 0 fine, mandatory attendance at Alcohol Highway Safety School, and a CRN evaluation to determine whether you have a drug or alcohol problem. A third time offense with .16 BAC will invoke one year minimum imprisonment, a ,500 minimum fine, 18 month license suspension, mandatory 1 year ignition interlock, CRN evaluation under PA DUI Laws.

On a first time DUI, you do not have the right to a jury trial.

If you're pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving, you have the right to refuse the breath, blood or urine test, however doing so will automatically result in a one year loss of driving privileges. This is because under Pennsylvania law, if you hold an operator's (driver's) license and are in physical control of a motor vehicle, you are deemed to have given implied consent to chemical tests.

Anti-Discrimination Law and Individual Rights in New Jersey (NJLAD)

Anti-Discrimination Law and Individual Rights in New Jersey (NJLAD)

Discrimination occurs when an individual receives unfair treatment due to legally-protected characteristics. The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination offers nearly the same protections guaranteed under the federal anti-discrimination laws; however, it is more extensive, more liberally interpreted, and offers much more in the way of rights and remedies for New Jersey employees. It guarantees the protection of civil liberties in places of public accommodation, employment, housing, credit and business contracts. In New Jersey, a person cannot be denied access to public institutions because they possess (or are perceived to possess) a certain trait that an owner finds undesirable. No place of public accommodation is permitted to restrict access on the basis of legally-protected characteristics or disabilities. A New Jersey employer cannot refuse to accept an application for any reason that does not pertain to the specific nature of the work presenting a conflict with their realistic ability to provide accommodations. They cannot deny training, promotions, or other employee work benefits. Employment rights are civil rights and an employee has an obligation to formally address their violation. Under the NJLAD, ignoring a complaint is considered a separate offense. The workplace must provide:

* Reasonable accommodations
* Readily-accessible facilities
* Fair and impartial treatment
* Non-hostile work environments
* Protection from retaliation

Schools funded by religious institutions are exempt from the NJLAD, as are private clubs. However, New Jersey is one of the few states where it is illegal for an exclusive establishment to discriminate against a member by limiting their advantages and privileges of membership on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, marital status, domestic partnership status, sex, or affectional or sexual orientation. Certain public institutions may not permit entrance to some individuals, depending on their disability, if it has been officially established in court of law that doing so will result in serious harm to the disabled person or others.

Church Etiquette

Church Etiquette

A church is a place for adoration and carries the highest mark of respect. In worshiping, we go to church and pay Him respect. As we enter the house of God, we should respect His sanctuary the same way we respect our homes.

Most people do not realize that there are actions they do that disrespects the House of God. Thus, they ignore the solemnity of the place. Here are simple manners, which obviously has been forgotten, but nonetheless should be practice whenever entering His house.

Be punctual

Treat it as if you are going to school. Waking up few hours before school starts just to take time to prepare and travel to school is just the same as to going to church or any other meeting, gathering or event. If you are not on time, you will miss the first period and get left behind in the lessons, just like going to church. You would not be able to start the ceremony.

Dress Code

Dress codes depend on religion. For some, they are required to wear certain attire like skirts and blouses, but others have the liberty to choose what to wear provided they are not too showy and it is in accordance to the accepted standards of decency. Church dresses are the best clothing for church visit. However, if you do not own any, you can always wear anything that is suited for the occasion.

Dresses should be modest. No tank tops (or dresses with only straps at the shoulders), no short skirts (mini-skirts), and no skin-tight dresses. Dresses should have backs and should not be low-cut in the front. If women wear pants to services, they should be dress pants (not jeans or leggings). Shorts of any type are inappropriate.

If you are still unsure if you wear decently, church dresses are cautious and conservative and at the same time, you get into an individual style format while in church.

Etiquette

Often, we forget the rules and principles governing correct or civil behavior in society in general or in a specific social group or situation. At church, for instance, we make actions that are not appropriate. These are some examples of what not to do while inside the church:

- Eating inside the church
- Leaving before the mass ends
- Going in and out
- Talking during mass

America Political Parties In The Making

America Political Parties In The Making

1789-1860

America was the first modern nation to achieve independence through a successful revolution against colonial rule. Many other colonies have subsequently won independence, but few have been as successful in subsequent economic and political development. [1]. Within America, the two political thoughts, the federalists and the Republicans, have dominated the whole American political landscape since the second quarter of seventeenth century. And we see, International affairs - the French Revolution and the subsequent war between royalist Britain and republican France - decisively shaped American politics in 1793-1800.[2]

Searching through the early beginning of political party system in America, it is very apparent to see the initial codification of political thought with the active beginning of federalist movement by celebrated leaders like George Washington, John Adams, and Alexander Hamilton. As a land mark in American history, the Federalist Party in American politics is considered to be the party that organized the national government of the United States of America under the constitution of 1787. [3]

The framers of the Constitution had not prepared their plan of government with political parties in mind. They hoped that the "better sort of citizens" would debate key issues and reach a harmonious consensus regarding how best to legislate for the nation's future. Thomas Jefferson reflected widespread sentiments when he declared in 1789, "If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all."[4]

Yet despite a belief that parties were evil and posed a threat to enlightened government, the nation's first political parties emerged in the mid-1790s. Several factors contributed to the birth of parties. The Federalists, under the leadership of George Washington, John Adams, and Alexander Hamilton, feared that their opponents wanted to tear down the Union, destabilize morality and property rights, and ally the United States with revolutionary France.

In contrast, the Republicans, under the leadership of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, feared that the Federalists were trying to establish a corrupt monarchical society, like the one that existed in Britain, with a standing army, high taxes, and government-subsidized monopolies.

Republican, informally known as the "Grand Old Party (GOP)", was founded in 1854 by opponents of Southern slavery. In 1860 its candidate, Abraham Lincoln, was elected President with the votes of the northern states, with the subsequent civil war between North and South (1861-65) resulting in victory for the North.[5]

They were much instrumental in the new turn of the American political situation. They defended the new United States Constitution, which owed much to the republican theory of mixed government.

The federalists were so favoring towards a strong central government.Even tough they had multiple views in action and was so influential for forming the constitution. Generally it is observed that they had a very "Loose" interpretation of the Constitution. Commercial policy, national security, and the nation's reputation abroad were interrelated aspects of the Federalist conception of America's foreign predicament.[6]

Featuring towards a new economic growth and social improvement, the mainstream though of federalism had encouraged commerce and manufacturing to improve further than the less productive existing situation. And they were very strong in Northeast and being reluctant to join with the polarizing thoughts of France they favored close ties with Britain, tough it became a big reason of expression of fear and anxiety from republicans.

From a federalist perspective they emphasized order and stability. Emphasized states' rights. And contrast to the federalist thought republics had a "Strict" interpretation of the Constitution. And in contrast the federalist thoughts, the republics paid more attention to agriculture and rural life. Their major strength was in South and West. Ironically in deep deviation from the federalist though the republicans had a Foreign policy sympathized with France. And more trust was given on civil liberties and trust in the people.

United States Commemorative Coins - People, Places and Events

United States Commemorative Coins - People, Places and Events

The U.S. Mint has been authorized by the U.S. Congress to produce a variety of United States Commemorative Coins over the years. These coins are produced to commemorate (celebrate and/or honor) people, places, events or institutions and are usually divided into Old (1892-1981) and Modern (1982-present) coins.

There have been many people that have been memorialized on U.S. Commemorative Coins. In recent years, famous people like Benjamin Franklin, Chief Justice John Marshall, Thomas Edison and Leif Erickson have been honored. In 1992, Christopher Columbus was commemorated on a Commemorative Gold Coin () as well as a Silver Dollar and half dollar. Older examples of people commemorated include Queen Isabella of Spain, Daniel Boone and Ulysses S. Grant.

Examples of places that were honored include the White House with the 200th Anniversary Dollar issued in 1992, the West Point Bicentennial Coin (2002) and the Smithsonian 150th Anniversary in 1996 with a Commemorative Gold coin.

The Korean War Memorial Silver Dollar was produced as a Mint Commemorative Coin in 1991 and the Vietnam War Memorial Silver Dollar was produced in 1994 for the 10th Anniversary of the Memorial, but it could be argued that both Memorials honor the men that fought and died in these wars as much if not more than the memorials themselves.

Same is true for the Statue of Liberty that was honored with three Coins in 1986, a Gold Coin, a Silver Dollar coin and half dollar. The Statue of Liberty is a place to be honored, but also it represents the gift that was given to the U.S. by France and has become a symbol of freedom and democracy.

There are many examples of events that have been memorialized on U.S. Commemorative Coins. In 2007, a Silver Commemorative Dollar was issued to remember the Little Rock Central High School, where the desegregation movement began. The Wright Brother's First Flight and the Bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark Expedition were also honored.

The Olympic Games have been honored many times including the most recent Olympics held in the U.S., the 2002 Olympic Winter Games (Salt Lake City, Utah). The Centennial Olympics were honored in 1995 and 1996 with at least 16 different Commemorative Coins. The Olympic Games were produced on U.S. Commemorative Coins in 1992 (France and Spain), 1988 (Seoul, Korea), and 1983 and 1984 to honor the Olympic Games held in Los Angeles.

All four of the following; the Bill of Rights, Civil War Battlefield, World War II and the Constitution Bicentennial were memorialized with commemorative five dollar gold coins and Silver Dollars (all but the Constitution Bicentennial were also issued in half dollar Commemorative coins as well).

And finally, institutions have been memorialized on U.S. Commemorative Coins including the U.S. Marine Corps (230th Anniversary) with a Commemorative Silver Dollar and in 2000, the Library of Congress.

The Crucible - Hysteria and Panic

The Crucible - Hysteria and Panic

Dark witches chant their evil chant and dance around the fire cauldron help us o god hectate send your dogs of wrath to avenge us. This is the image of modern paganism or neopaganism. Unfortunately it is very incorrect as the do worship Hectate the Wiccans are bound not to hurt anyone at least in their modern form. Thus the creation of white magic (Wicca) and black magic (Witchcraft). For many years witches and other practitioners of religions other than Christianity were persecuted such and the Mormon movement and the prophet Joseph Smith. The fact is that "9 million people" we not persecuted in fact many Christian leaders protected them from the mobs.

In fact these numbers are propaganda and persecution against the Christian faith itself. The fact is that the hysteria and a more enhanced word for it "drama". Even in High school people want drama, the National Inquirer is still one of the US best selling magazines despite its known cases slander that has reached the heights of the US legal system. This slander or controversy contributes to the bandwagon effect which everyone wants to be a part of. People throw out all logic with any type of controversy or drama. Even best selling author Dan brown author of the Da Vinci Code attributes to this fact, he regards it as one reason for the success of his books he states "Everyone loves a conspiracy". There is something bound in human hearts that replaces logic with lies and changes fear into hysteria.

"It is difficult, however, to feel that the political complexities inherent in The Crucible have been approached by Mr. Miller with any comparable sensitivity. He has, admittedly, disclaimed intent of contemporary reference in the play, choosing to see in it only the tragedy of another society. But it would be fatuous of Mr. Miller to pretend that our present cultural climate had not always a place in the foreground of his mind. Surely then, he can see that the Salem witch-hunts and our own virulent varieties are parallel only in their effects, not in their causes." (Richard Hayes "Hysteria and Ideology in The Crucible (1953)") Author Miller searched for bits and pieces that support his view and his metaphor to McCarthyism. He admittedly changed Abigail age one of the key players in his novel as well as the antagonist. He combined many judges into one so he could control what the view court was, and their reactions and punishments. He ends his play as a tragedy when in fact many did survive in the actual Salem witch trails. In addition the families of the victims were compensated by monetary means or by land.

The fear of communism has led to what is known as " McCarthyism, named after Joseph McCarthy, was a period of intense anticommunism, also known as the (second) Red Scare, which occurred in the United States from 1948 to about 1956 (or later), when the government of the United States actively persecuted the Communist Party USA, its leadership, and others suspected of being communists" (The Wikipedia Free Encyclopedia) When McCarthyism was first televised and Joesph McCarthy controversial tactics were exposed. This was the inspiration for the book "The Crucible by Arthur Miller" he used the Salem which trails as a metaphor for the McCarthyism that took place in the 1950's.The novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (1953) addresses the general theme of McCarthyism also. Arthur miller uses drama as his canvas to paint a picture of propaganda and distortion. Arthur Miller is the Michel Moore of the 1950's he doesn't realize the efforts done to protect the civil liberties in our county. He looks at national security as buffoonery,as an attempt to undermine the communists and their party and freedom of speech. Arthur Miller oversimplifies things in his metaphor between the 1950's and the Salem trials. One instance of this is that there were communists in the 1950's but in Salem as far as we know their were know witches. One current event that relates to this is the US Patriot Act which many criticize President Bush by saying it violates civil rights but in fact it has saved us from multiple terrorist acts. Just as in the 1950's the trials of communists helped us win the cold war and prevent a third world war. The fact of the matter is that hysteria is sometimes helpful because it focuses our attention on a real threat and helps us to prevent it.

Arthur Miller is a revolutionist in his own haughty eyes. He sees the world through a narrow tunnel and is interpreted to be open minded. His ideas, thoughts, and actions are why the US government was thought him to be conspiring against them. Now any person reading this article says what about free speech. Free speech is a wonder and a beauty of this great country we live in. But censorship does need to come into play when you can make bombs on the internet. You could read a book and now believe that you have to suicide such as the Heaven Gate Cult that used screen plays, sacred texts, and professional websites to convinced 39 people to take their own lives. Or the Oklahoma city bombing where the mad man found instructions for making homemade bombs on the internet or from research in public libraries. Arthur Miller is propagandist, he brings up great points but presents ideology and drama with little or no substance, evidence or constructive criticism. The world is safer without the propaganda of Arthur Miller. Without the "drama" controversy and lies. Terry Pratchett also known as diggers once said "The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it." We live in a world full of delusion it is hard to separate fact from fiction truth from lies. We must strive to define our ideas as that of our own creation not influenced by any outside intervention.

The True Power of Terrorism

The True Power of Terrorism

Those of us hundreds of miles from ground zero sat glued to our television sets with horror and disbelief as two of the tallest buildings in the world slowly disintegrated in a violence of dust and death.

Since that bright September morning in 2001, none of us have felt the same. Undergoing an unexpected and brutal national rape, we shuddered at our own vulnerability and defenselessness.

In grief, anger, and frustration, we gathered our tattered dignity around us and vowed repeatedly that it would never happen again. Next time, we would be ready, we would defend ourselves, we would regain our sense of power and invulnerability. We set out resolutely on the journey to make our world safe again.

Security was tightened at airports, border crossings, ports, bridges, and nuclear generating stations. Laws were passed to abridge civil liberties to better fight those out to hurt the United States. Action was implemented in Afghanistan to find the terrorist cells and overthrow their political supporters. The long-standing conventions of war prisoner treatment were abrogated in the name of national security. Iraq was invaded in a preemptive strike to limit the likelihood of future attacks on American soil.

Where has the yearning for security led us?

We have become the enemy. In the hazy logic of the Patriot Act or ethnic profiling at airports and borders, and the specious arguments supporting the treatment protocols at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, America has bought into the mindset of terrorism.

When individuals are kidnapped, psychologically or physically abused, threatened with pain, rape, torture, or death, they become terrified shells of their former selves. Often, they start to identify with their captors, their wills bent to the twisted but all-powerful logic of their oppressors. The prisoner becomes the kapo and exhibits more brutality than his superiors. This is the true price of terrorism: the response it elicits from its victims.

Since all of us are direct or indirect victims of 911, we all need to guard against the mindset we have assumed. We must ask ourselves about our priorities. Is improved safety worth the price of voiding our civil rights? Is the defense against terror worth the abdication of our humanitarian and ethical ideals? Shall we descend to the degradation and torture of our enemies in order to defend our "superior" way of life?

The United States has always, no matter how misguided or hated its temporary policies may have periodically been, stood as a beacon of freedom and fairness in a world too often enslaved and unjust. It is this beacon, this ideal, this dream that millions of American soldiers, through multiple wars over more than 200 years, have fought and died for. It is too precious to be obliterated by a suicide bomb or hijacked airplanes flying into buildings. It will flicker and die only when the values it represents no longer exist.

It has been imperiled before: in the sacking of Washington, the internal convulsions of the Civil War, the formalized institution of slavery, the destruction of Native American cultures, the seizure of Panama, the machinations of McCarthyism, the dropping of the atomic bomb. Somehow, lady liberty was able to dust herself off and recapture the inspiration and vision she represents to the world.

Now she faces her biggest challenge yet: surviving intact in a prevailing climate of fear. There have been wars before where too many young men died before their time. This time, the disturbed sleep of the watchful, wary soldier in his bivouac has moved into the bedroom of suburbia. We no longer feel safe, agonizing over the vulnerability of our children and loved ones. We watch the danger alerts turn different colors and know that sometime, somewhere, another strike will come.

The long heritage of openness, personal liberties, restraint, innocence until guilt is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, and the willingness to defend those rights to the death, has dissolved into the murk of security above freedom, life above ideals, and apathy above involvement. We invade each other's privacy as a mechanism of defense. We abuse and humiliate our prisoners in the name of preventing their future abuse and humiliation of us. We expand our "no fly" lists to close that traditionally-open golden door. We shut down our borders lest a terrorist lurks among the tired, poor masses.

A post-911-world will never be as innocent as before, no more than the permanent changes wrought by the assassination of President Kennedy or the bombing of Pearl Harbor could be avoided. Reaction to tragic, horrifying events is inevitable, both personally and politically. It is when that reaction becomes the basis for major decisions and colors how laws are interpreted, ethics are enforced, and relationships are developed that we must step back and look at our deep-rooted principles and identify where they have become warped and withered.

It is when we look at the world through the eyes of those who hate and threaten us that we see the true power of terrorism: not to destroy us but to assimilate us. That is when the terrorists will know that they have truly won.
